Hi, I am 24 and have decided I want to undertake a hairdressing apprenticeship.

I have heard that for the first year you only get normal apprenticeship wages of around 80-100 pounds a week but for the following 3 years you get national minimun wage which as of October 1st will be 5.55 for my age group.

Is this correct? My friend who did a hairdressing apprenticeship a few years ago seems to think I have got it wrong and that the most i will make is 100 pounds a week max for the whole 4 years. Can someone please advise as i thought they changed the law?
Many Thanks

According to the TUC website for the first year you will receive whatever is agreed with your employer. After the first year then you should be paid at least minimum wage.
