A friend who is 36 and has never received a grant for any form of education wants to know: can she get a grant for a Chiropractic training course she's been accepted on? The course, at a recognised college in England, lasts 5 years and costs a bomb, although it's only part-time.

It might be worth checking out direct.gov's website:- http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearni ng/UniversityAndHigherEducation/StudentFinance /index.htm.

There's quite a bit of information about different grants and support available to full-time students in higher education, so may give you an idea of what your friend would be entitled to.

Wish your friend good luck from me; I'm just about to embark on a degree and a total change of career direction, and totally understand how financially demanding it is. It's well worth it though; I'm so excited! Wish I'd done it years ago! Hope your friend manages to pursue her dream X
