First-year Italian text book

I would like to know the title (and authors) of a good Italian text book for beginning students. I know there are many available, and I also know that many are not up to much, so a book prescribed for a first-year or Special course at a reputable university would probably be reliable. If I could choose, I would like to know which book is prescribed for Italian Special (assuming the course still exists) at Unisa (the University of South Africa). In the past, their standard was excellent (I did French with them), and I'm hoping it's still good.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
