We have squatters in a rented property next door. The landlord has told that court bailiffs will be around in three weeks. Now the problem is the name on the court letter is in the name of the male tennant who has now left and hasn't been seen fo up to six months leaving his partner and her two sons one of which has a pregnant girlfriend living there as well. Do the bailiffs have the power to evict all or just the person whose name is on the court letter?
No .The law is alive to this. (Used not to be: back in the 1960s there was endless fun !) The owner should have got a standard order ,on notice, which enables them to evict any person found therein. That would be the normal practice.
