My friend tells me that now I'm on benefits (sadly) , I could claim rent rebate. Is this something you claim on a private property also? Also seeing as I am not renting ATM, how much notice do you need to give, ie do I need to apply first? Many thanks.

Yes, he can find out how much he is entitled to and then he would be able to know the sort of property he can afford to rent. The local housing allowance differs across the country.

At the moment I am still living moth my ex partner. She wants me out ASAP. So yeahhhhhh
I think you have to have a tenancy agreement in place before you can claim housing benefit.
You can claim housing benefit for private property. It may not be the whole amount, though
You can work it out on line - google 'housing benefit calculator' + your town.
Even if he's not renting a property?
