How to tax a car with temporary insurance cover

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to tax a car for which I will be taking out temporary insurance on? Want to drive a car to Nurburgring and the insurance is no problem for three or four days, but I am not sure about taxing it under these circumstances. Any info anyone can give me would be very helpful. I plan to go over to Germany in August. Thanks in advance for advice.
