Help! my partner's motorbike was stolen mid December. He claimed against the insurance and they have forwarded payment to him. The police have just rung to say they have found the motorbike!! What happens now? Will the insurance company take the money back? He borrowed money from a friend to buy another motorbike because he needed it to travel to and from work and wanted to pay him back when he received the payment! The police said the bike is in a garage about 5 miles away and my partner should arrange to collect it, but he has no keys or log book for it as he had to surrender them to the insurance company 21 days after the bike was stolen! He is now panicking about what to do as he owes the money to a friend, he has bought a new bike and he doesnt yet know what damage has been done to the stolen as obviously it must have been 'hot wired' when stolen!

has he considered calling the insurance company? They are the ones that now own the bike as they have paid out for it.
As already said contact insurance they now own it and contact the police and make them aware of the situation. I had a car stolen some years ago it turned up 7 months later I was asked by the police to attend there compound to identify it so they could get the thief to court It went to auction after that because the new owner phoned me after the cars history.
As above, it belongs to the Insurers and is their problem, call them and plod and explain. The Ic will prbably auction it off for what they can get.

Thank you, the police know that the insurance has paid out because he told them last night when they rang. He has delayed ringing the insurance because the money doesnt clear in the bank until Friday! That's why we are worried.
you've done the right thing, make sure you have the dosh first, absolutely!
Even though you have the money from the insurance you could buy the bike back from the insurance company and get yourself a cheap bike that you know, if you handed everything to the insurers you will get that back. I once bought a car back off the insurance company after it was written off for £200, I then drove it for another 3 years and then sold it for parts and got £300 for the engine. Before anyone says anything it passed 2 MOT's but failed the last one that's why I scrapped it.
