I'm searching for quotes for house insurance .

A lot of companies are asking the question below - which if the answer is no , reduces the premiums

' are you within x distance of a river / water course'

Now , I know that the river tame or one of it's tributaries ( if that is the correct description ) flows at the back of a shopping centre not far from my road ( probably through realigned channels - looking at a google search ) .
However I dont know where it goes after it leaves the shopping centre location , where I can see it .
I dont know if it goes underground .

My question is how can I find how near to my road , it's route is .
Any ideas ?

Try contacting your local water authority, they will have details of all water courses (natural & man-made), if they don't know nobody does.
This:~

is The Environment Agency flood risk page.
If you enter your postcode in the box (top right) it will show you the likelihood of flooding, and more to the point,a map with your local rivers.
Insurance companies cannot expect you to know information like this, the information just has to be true to the best of your knowledge. If the nearest water you can see is further away than the minimum distance quoted, you are entitled to answer 'no'.
