I work on a construction site and damaged a vehicle I was driving, when it skidded off the "road". The thing is, the "road" was unsurfaced, crushed rock with a layer of loose gravel which caused me to skid. The damaged vehicle is insured by my employer, and I had to fill out a claim form for them. As it wasn't on a proper road, will it affect my private car insurance? Should I tell them now or when I renew?

Technically you should still advise them - private road or not, the fact that an insurance claim is going through means that you should disclose it.

That said, and I'm in no way condoning this, we have no way of finding out about these sort of claims as they generally don't appear on our databases with the driver's name, only the company, so there would be no way to connect it to you.

It's going to be up to you - if you have an accident in your own car, there is the possibility that your insurance company could find out about this claim via the databases we have, and this could cause you problems.
