Honouring my insurance claim

My house insurance is with Tesco. In April i made my first ever claim for damaged gutters the amount came to �450 it took them over three weeks to reply to my estimate and give me the ok .Now next month in june i am due for renewal today i received the papers from tesco and they have put up my premiums by �10 a month. I have been on line and had some great quotes. If i take up one of these quotes have tesco still got to honour my �450 claim or can they "duck out of it" by me not renewing again with them.My renewal is 16/06 2008.

They should honour the claim

Hi i agree they should honour my claim but are they bound by law to honour it .
Yes they are.

You can change insurers whilst a claim is still open, but that won't stop your original insurers dealing with the claim just because you've taken your business elsewhwere.

Let's say you had cause to make a claim on the very last day of your insurance policy (and we'll use car insurance as an example), because your car has caught fire and is not a burnt out shell.

You can't afford another car until you ghet paid out, so whilst you don't have insurance anywhere else, you no longer have insurance with your company.

Your insurer is still obliged to deal with the claim as the insurance was in force at the time of the incident.

Same principle applies if you insure elsewhere
