Yes you can but check with your current insurers what return remium they will give you (if you paid in full) and if they charge any admin fees. If you pay on instalments, check if you will owe any money to the finance company as they might say you owe them some interest. Usually you will be given a pro rata return premium but obviously this will not be the case if there have been any claims.
This is possible, however depending on the amount of time that you have had on cover you will get charged a cancellation fee and either pro-rata or short term rates (this is usually chargable after the1st 14 day period of taking out insurance). I would recommend that you call you current insurer and enquire about it. Also, you can ask them to remove the 'automatic renewal authorisation' then your policy will just lapse at the renewal date. insurers are able to renew your policy automatically within the FSA guidelines.
