I've never had the pleasure yet, and hopefully I won't but what should I do?
I've heard two theories; produce documents as requested, or don't produce any documents even if you have them with you.
What is the legal stance, and what is the best thing to do?

Cheers

the legal requirement is,they have the right to see them,if you cant prove who you are,you could be taken into custody until they are satisfied who you are, whats the point in that if you have nothing to hide and you are driving legally.you will have to take them down to the local nick,if you dont show them anyhow,so why waste your own time, showing your docs when stopped if you have them is more likely to get you off as well,if you can sweet talk them at the roadside.
you are given 7 days from midnight on the day of issue af of a producer to take your insurance mot and licence to a police station. if not produced within this time you are summonsed for failing to produce.

If you have documents show them on sight, as you will just have to receive a producer and go to a police station and show them, so might as well do it there and then. Would not recommend you have your docs in the car though as if its stolen they have everything, insurcance cert, driving lic and MOT!
just be a good boy you might not get stopped lol
