Driving someone elses car
If you are insured to drive your own vehicle fully comp and you are caught driving someone elses car who is also fully comp but you do are not insured to drive that car. What is the penalty?

Check with your insurance to see whether you are thrid party for the other car - it's not automatic but sometimes included in your premium.
Other wise - It matters not who is insured for what - ONLY whether the driver of the car is insured to drive that vehicle.
Usually 4-6 points and a fine. I'm sure the regulars on here can give you chapter & verse on the fine aspect. It also matters how long you've had your licence - if you are a new driver then your in bigger trouble.

On the weekend my boyfriend borrowed his mums car as his car had been kept in a gargage over the weekend.
He is insured to drive his car only.
He got stopped and the police officer told him that he would get points and a fine which is expected...but they also advised that they would come and get the car and crush it? I know they are seizing un-insured cars, but they can they do that to cars that are insured?

a lot of insurance companies do not allow you to drive other peoples cars third party nowadays,but some do,so they might be lucky,but as ALMCD007 says you must check with your company,if they dont and they get nicked for it,its usually 6 points and a fine,it really amazes me that people drive other cars without knowing if they are insured on them,if they had had a accident,it could have cost them thousands in repair costs and people could get killed.
