Can anyone help please? I've got a repair kit for the ignition barrel of a 96 fiesta, but I think I need to know the key number in order to put the tumblers in, in the right order. The number is not on any of the keys and I don't have the handbook. Does anyone know how I could find out the number. Thanks, Tony.

The key is 'read' by the angle of the cuts on the head of the key - a ford partsman will 'read' the key for you in a few seconds just by looking at your key.
I think a Ford dealer can tell you this information if you give him your chassis number, though they may charge you for it.

The alternative is to mess about for ages with your key and the tumblers untill they align properly, then reassemble the barrel. Its a pain in the arse!!

Thanks for your speedy replies.

In the end I decided to bite the bullet and dismantle the old barrel to see if I could see the numbers on the tumblers. It worked! New barrel now assembled.

Once again thanks for your help.

Ford always used to put the number only on the boot lock for some reason!
