Just though of another thing! As I am organizing my own Ghost hunt event, can I write my own Disclaimer or do I need it done professionally?

No s ure but how many people do you think will attend?

Have you done adequate H&S checks?

Are you charging people to attend? If not a 'small contribution' towards public liability insurance might be calld for!
R u doing it with friends or people paying. If the latter do it professionally. Those I have been on are legal docs. Those organised by friends had no forms. Also remember the place u r investigating may need coverage or insurance. Have fun!
if you get it done professionally, or do it yourself it wont make any difference in my opinion. People could sue you only if you were negligent anyway, and if you were, a disclaimer wouldn't help
A disclaimer against what, pinkypie?

Hi all, thanks for your advice. I have sort Personal liability ins (as per the hoteliers request) as I have paying customers (the cost is for Bed and breakfast, 3 course meal and use of spa)

I'm not charging for the 'actual' Ghost hunt, I'm just doing it as it's a hobby.

I've been advised to make a disclaimer for loss of 'personal' property and to ensure that I have advised the group that they should not be drunk or have taken drugs (not that they will, they are a good bunch). Also that they don't have a bad heart etc... (but this is only for what I remember signing in the past as part of a ghost hunt I've attended.

There will be 14, but I know them all personally.

Thanks Pinky
Hi Pinkypie,

Day to day I work for a business insurance broker and I have spoken to a number of professional ghost hunter / tour guides. Although you aren't planning to do it in a professional capacity, you may find that certain sites will require you to have at least some public liability insurance in place before you take your group on-site. So PL is something you should consider.

Kind Regards

Tim

Thank Tim

I have a quote for PL now and that's great. It's up to £1Million at £56 for the night.
