removing/smoothing poly filla

Well somebody (my damn sister ;) went and filled a dip in my bathroom wall with polyfilla, so comes the time to wear it down flat and now I find it is next to impossible, it instantly clogs the sanding disks so they are useless.

Any ideas ? I'm also quite happy to go and remove the lot by force if necessary and re-plaster - with proper plaster as poly filla is now banned in this house :)

Polyfilla is no good for dips because you cannot get a feather edge - it is only suitable for holes. I use Fine Surface Filler (Polycell make one but so do others) for holes these days in any case (std filler is OK for the first fill on a deep hole).

If this seriously is a 'dip' over a significant area, you are better cutting it back a bit and replastering a small section.

So I might as well take a hammer and chisel to the lot and start again ?, quite happy to do that as I need some practice

Use a thick scraper .. Take it out and remove any more loose stuff.
You really need two small packs plaster .. one base or bonding, one multi-finish or similar. Pinch in edges before surface finish coat. You could get away with base coat first then trowel flat when going off (and pinching in joint edges) Then 'fine' filling only with polyfiller. This should make joints disappear.
