I think there is a 'Stain Devil' for red wine that might help.
You can buy them in most supermarkets.

I agree Pink lady, couldn't bear to waste a good glass of Chardonay, I did however try that when it happened but will attempt second method at next wash. Thank you
If all of the above don't work, Tesco sell an aerosol product called (De-Solv-it). I have used it loads of times on all sorts of fabrics & it hasn't let me down yet. Just follow the instructions then wash as normal & it should work. Good luck, Kath.

With all your help how could I fail, thank you everybody. JD
White wine is supposed to be tHe answer. I wonder if white vinegar would do the same job ?

Thank you everbody, I have tried all the remedies suggested with the exception of the last one but sadly, the stain is still there.Looks like it may become a dyed blue Aran soon!
The white wine trick really does work but you should do it STRAIGHT away. Next time perhaps? Hope you get it out, an Aran jumper is just what everyone needs this weather.
If it won't come out, get a navy dylon (it'll have to be hand dye for wool) and have a navy aran jumper.
The immediate dousing with white wine is the real deal - but it has to be immediate.
OR soak in cold water, literally just leave soaking for a day or so, then try the stain devil.
