TV picture - can't see the subtitles

I have a big heavy old style TV - a 16 inch Toshiba. For many months now the screen picture appears bigger so that I cannot see the heads of actors (at the top of the screen), and I cannot see the subtitles (at the bottom of the screen). I have adjusted my SKY picture settings many times but nothing I do makes any difference. Does anyone know what is wrong with this TV and if it can be fixed?

it's using the wrong aspect ratio (sounds like zoom, my Panasonic has 3 of those as well as auto, 16:9, 14:9, 4:3) - usually you can only change this via the remote control
that's the tv using the wrong setting not the sky box
Question Author
Hi, yes I know about these settings 16:9, 14:9 and 4:3. I tried changing to all three settings one at a time with my remote control but it didn't make any difference to the tv picture at all. In fact, I tried changing it several times.

When you say it is the tv using the wrong settings not the sky box, what does that mean and what do I do next please?
