i have a large tower style one of these, but sometimes the fan bit doesnt spin...it makes a noise like its trying to, and is turning very slowly and i shake it a bit and eventually its just starts working...it works best on the fastest setting too

it doesnt oscilate at all, but im not too bothered about that, but obviously i dont want to have to spend 5 mins faffing about with it to make it work...

can anybody tell me what i can do about it, if anything? is this a known problem? could something be blocking it ( i turned it upside down and it started immediately, but stopped when i righted it again)

any ideas...theres not really any where i could take it to be fixed round here, and i thinks its probably something simple as it does work

thanks

Buy a new one they are not that expensive
Unplug from mains and check all the wiring by accessing inside Fan. Sounds to me like loose or bad connections somewhere which could be dangerous....
Fans are usually shaded pole induction motors. Not starting is typically a sign of imminent catastrophic failure. Not worth even trying to fix it.
