What methods do psychiatrists use?

I've been to see a psychiatrist to try to help my depression and social phobia/anxiety.
In the session I had, he only asked about my medical history, put me on these pills that my body is rejecting (being sick) and told me that I'd be completely better after the next three sessions. Then he'll never need to see me again. (He told me this.)... so what I want to know is, what exactly would a psychiatrist plan to do in 3 sessions, that would 'make me 100% better'? I don't really know what methods of help he would use?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yeah, I couldn't decide on where to post! I don't trust any of this will work, I just want to know what he plans on doing... apart from waving a magic wand!
I didn't think a psychiatrist could prescribe medication..
If you think he can make you well in 3 sessions he would have succeeded. Mind over matter and all that. I think by you questioning it on here he`s failed.

I'm very interested in psychology myself and I've been to see psychologists before who have said to me that I know too much about it to be able to get anything from it! I guess it's like a shrink going to see another shrink for help!
Oh and yes, psychiatrists CAN prescribe medication - that's the difference between them and psychologists.

I would not trust ANY psychiatrist who said this.

There is no way any psychiatrist can pin it down to exactly three sessions (or any number of sessions to be honest).

I suffer from depression and some anxiety and have had it most of my adult life.

I dont think those feeling every FULLY go away, I think it can get worse and can lead to a breakdown for example, but most of us are either a glass half empty or glass half full people.

So how they can say you will be "completely better" are 3 sessions is silly and somewhat dangerous.

Have you been refered to them by a GP, or just pick the name out of the hat. I would question their medical training to be honest.
