ipod mini downloads
Hi peeps, I think I have done something quite silly but hey, maybe you can help me - I have ordered an ipod mini from the USA (I have been assured that all I will need is a uk to america adapter.)  I have since been told that you have to pay 75p for each song you download?! Is this true & is it possible to download tunes from a program such as "limewire" that I use to make CD'Ss from?  I am very worried about this now as it has cost me alot of money I shouldnt have spent in a moment of impulse... I have no idea how to transfer songs from my computer onto the ipod - I have a packard Bell PC with Windows XP - I have no idea what all this firewall / cables isb ports stuff is all about either!? Thanks Guys!

Yes, the itunes music store does charge 75p for each single downloaded, however, thats not the only way to put music on your ipod. You can copy the tracks from any cd's you own using the itunes software supplied plus there are many sites with free music that you can download.

You can of course also use many of the popular peer 2 peer download clients like kaaza and winmx which also allows you access to a lot of pirated music if thats what your looking for. I don't recommend it though as you pay for what you get and after all 75p is not to bad for a song you know will be virus free.

Don't worry about the firewall on your pc, its not relevant if you are just copying tracks from a cd that you own, as long as you have a USB port to connect to the ipod you will be fine. If you buy songs using itunes then the firewall can be configured to allow access, but you will probably not have a problem.

Enjoy the ipod, its a great gadget and you will get loads of fun from it.

i have downloaded 200 songs on to mu jukebox and no viruses i've had no viruses on winmx.com

Ok, a few things:

1. You should probably call whoever the ipod is made by and ask them about it or the place your downloading songs from.

2. The firewall is just ment to keep out any virises somebody might be trying to send you.  Just make sure you trust whoever your downloading from.

All in all, if you have questions you should probably call the company you ordered the ipod from.

Also, it's not only in th UK you have to pay.  In the US you also have to pay for a lot of songs you download.

I have an ipod mini bought from the usa, you do need a plug adapter to charge your ipod from the mains, but everything else is the same (usb cable etc).  The firewire (I think that's what you were thinking of when you said 'firewall') and usb cables you get are just to connect the ipod to the PC in order to transfer music, and also to charge it up.  All I do is upload songs from cds to my PC and then download them to the ipod, which I learned through the instruction booklet and iTunes cd you get.  It wasn't too difficult to master at all.  You do have to pay for downloading tracks from the iTunes site and a lot of other sites too, but I don't do that as I don't have net access at home.  It is pretty simple to use all in all, don't worry too much!
I use a mac with my iPod but I also use Limewire. Your iPod will come with iTunes for PC (or you can download it today for free from Apple and puruse the iTunes Store). My version of iTunes or Limewire automatically set up a playlist in iTunes so that any downloads go straight to my music library, then straight onto my iPod. If your existing files are MP3 then the transfer will be straight forward dragging and dropping from one library to another. If they are in WMA format you will need to get software which will convert them for you. The best information (and downloads is from

You can download iTunes from
http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/

Information about you mini from Apples iPod/iTunes site at
http://www.apple.com/uk/ipodmini/

Downloads cost 79p from the UK. Don't think you will have any problems with power supply.
