I have recently been having some problems changing gear especially into reverse it sounds like the gears are grinding and makes a lot of noise that doesn't sound very healthy. I am trying to make sure that I put the clutch fully down but any ideas what it could be?

It could be that the clutch cable has become stretched, if you do go to ask a garage, go to a reputable one preferably a friend otherwise you may be told you need a full clutch (even though you probably dont) !.

You can very easily adjust this yourself.  I had exactly the same problem with our Corsa & paid a mechanic something ridiculous like 30+VAT to adjust it.  Eventually the problem started to return but by this point I had bought a Haynes manual & when I saw how easy it was to do I was furious at how much I'd been charged.

Essentially there's an adjusting nut on the clutch cable that took me literally about 3 minutes to find & adjust with a spanner.  That's it! (And I should add I am a complete numbty when it comes to mechanical things.)

Unfortunately without a diagram I can't really explain where to find the cable but if you want to give it a go, invest in a Haynes manual (or have a sneak peek in Halfords), it could save you time & money.

Or your local library might have a copy.
