Is it a straightforward job replacing glow plugs in a VW golf TDi 1.9 (P reg) ?

Yep - pretty straightforward job.

Basically disconnect the electrical feed at the top of the existing glowplug. Of course making sure the ignition is off ! Blow away any gunge from around the plug and remove. I can't recall what the size is for the VW - an 11mm deep socket ? I.e. a socket designed for spark plug removal.
