How much should the water bill be for one year?

My landlady has told me that she has paid the full year's water bill for 2009-10 via thames water and that I should pay her back in monthly instalments of roughly 19, which would make it 220 per year.

How can I check that this is the amount that she has agreed to pay thames water without being rude? The account is under her name and she wishes to keep it that way.
Is this amount a reasonable amount to pay for water as an estimate? I dont know much about it.

Sounds cheap to me. I wish mine was that low
Mine is twice that much. :(
"Thames Water customers will see an average price increase of 2.4 per cent in 2009/10, with a typical household bill rising by 7 to 295-a-year, equivalent to just 81p-a-day per household."

You could ask to see the bill or telephone Thames Water.

I would trust the word of our friendly ABers on this one, ff. If they say it is low then it is a case of "Better the devil you know". If you ask to see the bill then it will sound rude, and sounds like you don't trust her word.

If I were you I would just roll with this one, as most bills I know are higher than that.
Sounds very reasonable
Mine is 15.54 per month. Your amount is probably correct depending on where you live. If you are responsible for paying it to her, she should give you at least a copy of the bill.
Yes thats very resonable, mine is based on the old system of rateable value, the rateable value I think is about 150 and my water bill is 300.29 p.a. and I think that is cheap compared to what some people pay.
One thing you haven't mentioned is how many tenants she has. Are you the only one? If you are, then the bill is very reasonable. If there are more, then........?

Its my gf and I and it is an estimate paid to thames water each year by my landlady. We already agreed to set up a water meter bakc in feb but not heard since although she did say it would take about 90 days to have it set up.
seems good to me, mine is over double that a year and only 2 people in my house.
Hi all, I wish I could pay 220 a year. I live in the south west and my water bill is 800 a year, I almost cry when I have to pay it LOL. It even has to go through a filter before you can drink it. Tastes horrible otherwise and the lime in it is really bad. Anyway enough of my moans 220 sounds very good to me.
I live in the West Midlands and mine is 45 per month, mind you we do have some of the best water from the welsh valleys lol ! used to live down south and I couldn't drink it from the tap down there now. Bargain.
I keep reading this thread and I'm feeling more smug with every post I see;-)

I live in a tiny 'starter home', with no washing machine. (I use the laundrette). I've not got a dishwasher and I try not to wash anything up until there's a full bowl of plates (when I'll boil a kettle). I take the quickest of showers each day and I take care to minimise my use of water. (For example, I try not to flush the loo more than a couple of times a day. One of those 'flushes' will be achieved by using the water I've saved after shaving).

My bill for the last 26 week period was 26 (which makes the sums nice and easy: i.e. 1 per week, or 52 per year).

Chris
i wonder what happens if at the end of the year you hav used mre water than she has paid for?
if this helps i have a 3 bed terrace house and the bill from north west water is 274-46p for the year

ps if i pay by direct debit they will knock 5 off the bill
