You can download iTunes for free for Mac or PC from the Apple website... don't know if it is free for the iPhone.

Is the 19 fee for a years free surfing, or iTunes music downloads perhaps?
He bought something for nearly 20 and doesn't know what it is?? Advertisers must love him.

I think itunes is free for everything, I'm sure it is already on the iphone, you just need it on your computer to sync stuff..........really don't know what the charge was for, no email to his in box, maybe it is as you say below.......................I'm baffled.
Next time, tell your OH I have something here that he doesn't realise he wants or needs.

He can have it for 20 :-)

iTunes store: to purchase music tracks...

Maybe he 'purchased' a period of music downloads at a cheaper price per track?

Weird he has received no receipt etc...
Are you sure he downloaded iTunes from the genuine ITunes site?

A lot of people nowadays set up "look a like" sites so that you THINK you are downloding it from Apple but you are downloding it from a dodgy company who try to get money out of you (successfully in this case).

Please warn him that there are a number of nasty companies who pretend you have viruses or other problems with your computer and you need to buy their software to "fix" your computer.

These are all SCAMS and under no circumstances should he pay out money to these people.

Also, if he is that gulible make sure you have good computer security software on your computer or it will be full of viruses and spyware soon.
I believe Apple does offer a trial period of their Mobile Me service.

I have no idea if it's a 3 month trial you pay for, or whether it's free or whatever, but perhaps that's it?

If he isn't sure what he's agreeing to, he shouldn't agree to it! This is a surefire way to get viruses and all sorts of nasties on your computer.

RE lack of receipt via email: Apple's receipts from iTunes can take a few days to arrive; not sure why, but they can and do.
If he purchased from itunes he will be emailed the receipt to the email address for his itunes account. It will say on there what it is for.
