Toshiba RD-XV47KB timed recording from digi tv

I have a Toshiba RD-XV47KB connected to aTV that has its own internal digibox.
I can record digi programmes while they are being shown on the TV
But is it possible to do timed recording from a digi channel? The manual talks about a 'satellite' option where recording starts when a signal comes in on AV2- but how do I make this happen.
And what are we going to do after digital switch over- will it mean having to buy a new recorder ?
