My father-in-law has just got a new computer which uses vista. He isn't used to using vista so I was wondering if there was an easy to use website that he could go to to help him with some basic queries. An online 'dummys guide to vista' is what I am after.
Thanks.

Well, he could try this site:

I've heard some mixed reviews .... not all good - hem!

the "for dummies" books are good ... if you can get one from the library - I think most people would only need to refer to it occasionally after the first couple of reads

windows it pretty much windows - 3 to vista isn't really that big a jump for none techies.

single click = select or press
double click = open.

the tricky bit is whatever it is you've just opened - and knowing what's there to be opened - and sometimes how to get it on or off.

the best way to learn is to get a job ... it's like giving someone a screwdriver ....
not much good unless you have something to screw

the techies talk big ... but it's like medicine - far easier in most cases than the 6" of latin used to describe it (just take an asprin and give it a week!).

if that doesn't work - follow rojash's suggestion
Microsoft produce hundreds and hundreds of web pages to help you use their software, and it always amazes me how few people ever use them.

Here is one site for learning Vista.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista /discover/default.aspx

There is also a "welcome centre" in Vista and some of the options on there introduce Vista. Here is a picture of the Welcome centre so you recognize it.

Also, all versions of Windows have extrensive help so why not search the Vista help, I am sure there some intro guides to Vista in the help.
There is very good tutorial software available with full
details available at the following address,

www.greenstreetsoftware.com

I have used this software myself and found it very useful
and instructive.

If I REALLY wanted to find out something I didn't know, this site would be the last place I'd try.

Within three replies an almighty argument would be in full force with claims and counter claims of racism by the usual suspects.
amber what are you saying? ... the techies are too civilised to start that sort of cr@p
