I bumped into a car's bumper, no damage was incurred

I bumped into the car behind me in a car park, we both inspected the damage, I saw nothing, the elderly lady said I had caused damage, but I saw none at all.
To be courteous and not knowing what else to do, I gave her my tel. no. She then obtained my address (breaching client confidentiality!) from club records and has now written to me twice with a garage quote of over 200 to put right the 'damage'. There were no witnesses and because I apologised to her at the time, she feels she can get me to pay for something I really did not do. What come back does she have if I refuse to pay?

None - she can't prove that you did any damage, just as you can't prove that you didn't.

What work are the garage quoting for?

Hi Julia, Is your Bumper colour coded? if yes go to the garage that give her the estimate without taking your own car for them to view ask them the colour that was on the damaged bumper then ask for a photo of the damaged items, as said NEVER say sorry if a bump occurs you are then admitting fault, I think the other person is looking for a repair out of you that has been either been done by herself or by someone else.
I had kind of similar experience few months back but regardless of whether any damage or not I think you legally bound to contact your insurance company as if the lady had contacted her insurance and you had not reported it to yours then any charges will be down to you.
The insurance company will note it and then ask if you wish to take it any further. In my incident had just a little knock and wasnt worth pursuing to get it fixed and was all done and dusted. But my insurance company did confirm that it has to be reported.
