i am getting some building work done and no one seems able to tell me what the minimum distance a velux window can be from a chimney. i want the window to be an opening one so it needs to fulfill that criteria, but i have;nt a clue what it is, or whether this distance is horizontal, vertical or both. can you help???

Don't know the answer, but there's a contact email address on Velux Window's website, where you may get you query answered.
Velux can probably answer this question - they must have heard it before.
Alternatively open this document (Building Control document Part J on Heat producing devices and look at Diagram 34 on page 42. This explains all the minimum relevant distances.

Now I appreciate it doesn't actually show a roof window (Velux) but the principle about minimum distances from the flue outlet of the stack to the opening door are still valid.
Ask Building Control at your local council if still not sure.
at least 1000mm from the bottom of the flue outlet to the top of the opening velux.

thank you all. the 1000mm is what i have found since i posted question but wasn't sure so great to have confirmed. pity the building approval people wouldn't/couldn't tell me that, cos now i know my velux is complying with there regs and so can be opening!!!
