miele are the best you pay a bit more for them but worth every penny ...
would agree with sleepy1 but electrolux are good and cheaper. have only used electrolux for the past 20 years. would not advise dyson, not as good parts brake easily
We recently bought a Panasonic from a repair shop. It was new not second hand and he said they were the best on the market. He also said never buy a bagless machine as they are the ones keeping him with so much work as they are always breaking down or needing new parts.
The machine picks up really well and is lightweight. I would recommend Panasonic to anyone. Hope this helps in some way.

I have a Dyson upright, and swear by it, I've had it for about 7 years and only just washed the filters every 4 or 5 months and it's still working really well, If it broke down tomorrow, I'd buy another Dyson!
I prefer the Vax to the Dyson. They're so easy to empty and clean, cheaper, work very well - and mine has a 10 year guarantee. GOT to be good!
i find the pipe on the dyson just a little to tight!
Henry numatic. That is where we got in the end after trying almost all the others. But in the end they are all machine. One works for someone and the other for someone else.
A Miele, Henry Numatic or Sebo are your best bets
Know-ledge,
i find a bit of lube eases the tightness! ???
Dyson prefers it also !!!
