We just bought a house and a long, high hedge runs along the side of the house and driveway, giving great privacy from the neighbors, but it scratches our vehicles. It was never trimmed proprely and we tried to trim it but only the ends have foliage so when trimmed it leaves only branches. My husband is going to cut the entire hedge down to restart it. Is there anything we can do so we don't have to take out the entire hedge??? I like the look and privacy but it is ruining our vehicles and take up alot of parking space. Thanks

what type of hedge is it?
We had a large hedge, mixed, nearly 6 feet wide, taking up a lot of space. We have cut it back (last Autumn) and it is now half the width and half the height. It looked very sparse all through the winter, but now has greened up nicely, we hope to keep it cut back, instead of ignoring it as we had done before.
