HI can anyone help with this, If you where caught speeding say doing 50 in a 30 zone and your speedo said you where doing 30 and you later found out that the speedo was wrong would you still get the fine/points ? because the checking of a speedo is not a MOT requirement and its not something you could check yourself unlike other requirements of the MOT, this is a hyperthetical question but its just doin my head in and I thought someone would know the answer.

Many thanks

Yep, you'd get done. Otherwise everyone would try that excuse! And, hyperthetically of course, anyone who couldn't tell the difference between 50 and 30 shouldn't be allowed to drive full stop!
My speedometer was not working, so I didn't realise what speed I was travelling at.
This does not affect the notice of intended prosecution and implies an additional offence of having a faulty speedometer in a vehicle being driven on the public highway

My friend got away with it - he was prosecuted for having a faulty speedo which did not carry any penalty points.

Thank you for your answers.
you would have to prove that the speedo was incorrectly or had a problem with its calibration.
