I'm probably being a bit thick here but whats the problem with micro chipping your pets. My cats are micro chipped.

someone is bound to complain but i dont see a problem with it. The RSPCA chip all rehomed animals and it does help many lost pets find there way back to their owners too. What i always found was the main reason people used for not having it done was cost. Vets used to charge 40-50 per animal and yet the chips are sold to them at very low cost.

The human rights mob will be better off waiting for the time when people are chipped.
I wouldn't mind one that activates a cat flap. I think micro chipping is essential. It may cost a lot but then why have a pet if you can't afford to look after it. I spend over a 100 each year on boosters for my 2.
lol tigger, i quite agree, every owner should be made to have their pet chipped. (Mr CRX makes ID chips lol)
Nice one CRX ;-)

We'll do an AB campaign to get all pets micro chipped. Can I have a cut of the profits please as I suggested it! Lol
LOL if i got a cut of the profits Id be amazed. The vets do make a lot out of it, the chips themselves are less that 5 including registration as far as i know.
I have always wondered why vets are so expensive! Whats the reasoning behind it?!

One problem that puts people off is that the microchip can migrate and end up anywhere in the pet.

Sometimes they cannot be found or become inactive.

Also you can get cysts forming around the site of injection.

There are a number of different microchips and scanners do not read them all, also not every dog warden etc. scan dogs.

My dog is never out on his own and has never (and will never) 'get lost' so I don't personnally see the point of injecting something foreign into his body.

If I was looking for a form of identification then I would go for a tattoo.

How would the government implement a law like this without introducing dog registration? How much would that cost and how on earth would they police it? Only responsible people would get their dogs registered. I cannot imagine every single police officer carrying a scanner and stopping every dog owner he passed on the street demanding to scan their dog!
i suppose vets have the overheads, more than a manufacturer has perhaps.

IAP, do you think i should, or shall i just get him 'done'??

My cats are microchipped and I was very happy to have it done. If they go missing they can be traced and returned to me. People need to realise that owning animals is a responsibility, not just something to amuse them for a while until they get bored of it.
