My passat Radio doesn't accept the code. The dealer wants to change a chip and charge me $100 no guarantee that the radio will work. Is there an alternative?

You could buy a new radio, I suppose. More expensive, but it would give you the satisfaction of not handing money over to the dealer.
Try wrapping it up well and leave it in the freezer for a couple of days. This has been known to work in some instances. Allow to gently come back to room temp before connecting.
yep, freezing. car thieves do it all the time, it resets the internel memory to the original factory settings.
Get the serial number of the radio from the side of the set. Then e-mail me and I will tell you what to do next ok?
