Depends on the size, make and model. If you haven't got the manual, I would wait at least 12 hours.

Many Thanks Ethel !!
I have a freezer which needs manual defrosting.Once defrosted and switched on it is at operating temperature within minutes.

I would imagine that a couple of hours at most is all that is needed.Check your manual it may have a turbo button to get it cold faster
the key here is that a freezer works better with things in t
it. more imortant is how long it should stand after moving before being turned on. i suggest 4 hours at least after being moved although more modern machines may cope with less.
As PortlandBill points out, after moving is where you run into potential problems, especially if it has been tipped from the upright operating position. Tipping should be avoided unless the owners guide permit this. Wait at least an hour (24 hours to be safe) before plugging your freezer in, to ensure that the oil has time to drain back to its proper place in the compressor. The oil in older freezers may be slower to settle.

The freezer should be prepared to keep food frozen in just a few minutes. If you are now sure about this place a thermometer inside or allow it to complete one cycle of cooling, this should only take a few minutes with no warm food inside.
