What's the correct way to iron a shirt? I go collar, body then finally the sleeves. I've been told this is wrong.

does it matter as long as it looks ironed once it's done?

PS
Seeing as you are ironing, can I send mine round to yours? I've mastered washing and pegging out to dry one handed, but ironing is beyond me.
I just do whatever bit I come to first as long as its all ironed. I never have an ironing pile thought or spend hours ironing dont see the point. I wash my clothes put them in drawers then iron them when I want to wear them
Surely you can iron a shirt any way you like? I do it this way - collar, yoke, sleeves then body.
Stick to how you've always done it!

This link will set your mind at ease

er what's a yoke?

Thanks for the link nikki. I'll sleep easy tonight :)
A yoke it the bit at the back of the shirt at the top..isn't it? I must admit that my ironing pile has been severley depleted since Mr hippyhoppy hopped off so now I only have a few school tops and a couple of t-shirts a week. Yay me!
Traditionally as you didnt often remove your jacket, you would iron the exposed parts first. If you scorched them, then there was no point ironing the rest.

As said above, stick to your own system as this works for you. My system is arms, cuffs, breasts, then collar last.

I'm in a quandary here. I'm doing a collarless shirt..where do I start...I must be told!!!
The yolk is the part that goes from the top of the sleeves and across the shoulders,
in the Army I was taught to do the collar 1st, (pointy bit, then to the middle of collar, then the other pointy bit to middle of collar, this stops the material "gathering" on the pointy bit)
then the sleeves (they can droop down while you do the rest), yolk, back and finally each body panel.

It's the army way from now on for me.

I did a job last year for an ex R.S.M. I was sh1t scared of him:)
He was a good Razzman then, instilling fear into squaddies is their purpose in life, I was more afraid of the RSM's I served with than I was of the enemy.
Although fear is probably the wrong word, as your career progresses you learn to respect more than fear them

He was divorced, & his house was immaculate. Everything had it's place, & his clothes were completely crease & wrinkle free ! I'm sure he ironed his scrotum of an evening:)
