I have seen some black telephone boxes in some parts of the London area. Can anyone explain the difference between the black telephone kiosks and the red telephone kiosks?

The red ones: Are owned by BT (British Telecom) www.payphones.bt.com

The Black and some red&Yellow ones: Are owned by a private (Public limited company) called Spectrum Interactive. www.spectruminteractive.co.uk

The orange ones: Are redundant and where owned by Ipm/Infolines until most sites were sold off to Spectrum Interactive. The orange interphone kiosks are still owned by infolines and are working in cities o/s london such as Manchester and Leicester.

BT has a legal requirement to operate payphones whilst Interphone and Spectrum Interactive can remove or opt out at anytime they like as well as dig up the streets and put new ones in at anytime and anyplace they want.

You'll find Spectrum interactive's the most cleanest of kiosks!

Hope that answers your question!
