Does it have a drain from the washing machine fed into the side?

If so does it smell when the machine empties?

Take off the washing machine drain and you will find it almost blocked with the most rank gunge ever.
Even though it isn't blocked, the trap may contain bits of discarded food. These bits of food will start to break down producing the 'odours', especially when slightly disturbed by runing water.
If ordinary bleach doesn't clear it, just unscrew the trap, take it outside and blast the **** out of it with a hose pipe.
Also, put a bowl underneath and with an old dish brush, scrub the down pipe from the sink until there's no more gunk left.
Finally, replace the trap, and wash sink with bleach and water.
i had the same trouble .cleaned traps and pipes in the end it turned out to be the flange at the bottom of the sink where the water goes out ,that is the bit you put the plug in
thats connected to the trap the gunge gets under the flange ,
