Just been out walking & I saw a baby left on it's own in a car parked on a blind bend. The baby was awake, her face was flushed, she had a blanket on her & all the windows were shut. I looked about to see if I could see anyone, but there was no one around. I carried on walking, but was determined to do something if she was still there when I returned. Came back half an hour later, she was still there looking out the window at me. I knocked on a neighbours door for some moral support & we both approached a house it was parked outside. Anyway, the mother came out & said, whats wrong with her? she was asleep? Her friend said, she's not been there long, it's my fault, I kept her talking ( friends fault ) Question - What would you have done? We were made to feel we had made a fuss about nothing.

i would of rung the police bang out off order leaving a baby in a car on a hot day like today . silly mother
stupid tarts
I would have looked for the mother too, especially if I knew the baby had definitely been there for half an hour. How long would they have chatted if you hadn't interrupted?? How were they meant to know whether the poor thing was awake or not if they were chatting anyway? I'm presuming the weather with you was as hot as it's been here today - in which case it's unthinkable to leave a baby in a closed-up car! People astound me with their stupidity sometimes!!

Don't worry yourself over the "fuss about nothing" because it absolutely was NOT! I'm amazed you could restrain yourself from punching her lights out as she answered the door...
Thanks redhead, your two words summed it up better than all of mine!!

sleepy/red/nut - Thanks, yes, it's been very warm here today. These situations are always awkward aren't they! The mother, didn't stay around long after that, she got in her car & went.
im not being old fashioned (im 23) but that is why i think some people really need to have licenses before they can have kids

i know one woman of 30 who is on cocaine all the time , she does it in the kitchen whilst her 7 year old is in living room
and swears at him , and we wonder why these kids grow up to be so bad !!!!
by the way this woman is an associate of mine (not a friend) and has since been reported to social services ,
not by me i may add , (i probaly should have the courage) and i think its a sorry state of affairs !
Thats shocking!

I'm not a mum myself but thats just unacceptable.

I would have complained to the lady, I dont mince words!, as a parent I would be horrified to see a baby left for that amount of time alone in a hot car. I probably would have caused a scene in the street (I am a big mouth!)

the benefit of causing a scene would be that everytime she nipped out of the car in the future leaving her baby she would have a grim flashback of me banging her to rights!!

who knows it may make her think twice..

redhead23 - That's really bad. Some people are so damaged, they can't possibly bring up kids.

cazzz - I wish I had your balls!
Shocking ,irresponsible , dangerous , ........and surely illegal , or , if not it should be !!! Thoughtless parent.
Disgusting Woman! & Poor little baby. I would have called the police.
Question Author
bigmamma/rainbow - It makes you feel like they see you as someone that's never put a foot wrong, I know how hard being a parent is, but I would never have left my baby like that!
Question Author
sunflower - Thanks for your reply too!
It's made me think about those other excuses for mother/auntie/grandmother who filmed those poor children fighting and posted it on the net. There was a letter in the paper this week pointing out that people caught organising dog fights get a prison sentence, whereas those shameless women got suspended sentences. You're so right about a licence to have children, red. I would gladly volunteer for the job of assessing who got one and who didn't....AND I'd do it for nothing, too!!
As one of those evil child care social workers I am really impressed with you taking action. You risked the possibilty of a hostile response but did so because you put the child's well being first. Oh if only other people sometimes the other parent or relative was as child focussed as you then I would have so much less work to do which for children would be great. I am sure that the parent and the friend have reflected on your action and whilst they may have seemed nonchalant probably have given serious thought to thier behavior - well lets hope so

ruby - Thanks, I think your right, she probably did go away & think, hopefully. I just couldn't have come in & settled really.
Question Author
nut - I read about that case??????? I felt sorry for the father that found it on video tape.
who leaves a baby unnatended, outdoors and unchecked for over half an hour anyway?
surely the only time you can do that is when they are asleep in their cots - and even then you have the monitor so you can hear them!

this sort of thing makes me despair of the stupidity of some people - how can anyone be that braindead - it baffles me how one persons mind can just not work properly for her to think that was ok.

i agree on proper lessons for parents - it should be a law before you can have children.

and perhaps the goverment should produce a full and comprehensive manual, that should be given to all parents.
they should even perhaps have to sit an exam.

i would like some of my taxes to go to fund such a thing - then perhaps we would have a world with a better standard of people and a lot less child abuse
