My mum wants 2 know when we go on holiday in the summer, because her sister in law is cabin crew, when she asks at check in can they tell her who the cabin crew is??
(my mum doesnt really want to ask her sister in law because it would be a bit awkward, bearing in mind we want 2 c her on the flight so she can upgrade us!)

well,i doubt very much she will be able to upgrade you once you are on the flight, unless the plane is half empty
The only thing you can do is ask and the worst that can happen is that the person will say he/she is not at liberty to say. If your relation is on the flight then there is not much advantage in knowing at check-in because she would effect the move just before departure or once in the air - it would most likely be entirely unoffocial. If she is head of the cabin crew she can make this decision on her own, otherwise she will need the agreement of her superior (usually forthcoming). It all depends on seat availability - note that catering may not have spare business/first meals on the flight but at least the seat will be better.

she is very senior cabin crew, she has been working with virgin from the beginning, she wont have any problems with moving us!
So, why don't you just say to her, "San, we're flying out on X date. Are you gonna be on that flight 'cos were on cheap seats(nudge nudge)?"

Don't ask, don't get. Have a jolly good holiday.
