In the Irish film 'Intermission' a girl's moustache is contantly referred to as a 'ronny'. I understand this is Dublinese for moustache, but where does it come from?

I know little about Irish slang, so this may be completely wrong, but I wonder if it is a reference to Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners - famous for his beard and moustache?

I have always understood that it referred to the actor Ronald Coleman who had a distinctive moustache or Ronnie.
