Jif became Cif - presumably because the continentals find it hard to pronounce the letter J as we do, Oil of Ulay became Olay, dont know why. I'm sure there's more......
Marathon became Snickers
Star Bar - Boost....more to follow when I can be ar5sed.
I think this is mostly done to cut down the cost of making commercials. You can make one commercial and change the voice over to the language of the country you intend to show the commercial.
Star bars and boost are different. You can still buy both.
Opal fruit - starburst
Coco pops renamed Choco Krispies, and then renamed back to Coco pops cos everyone hated it. Appletise, for some bizarre reason, is now Appletiser. Does an extra letter really make that much difference?
I do smile at the Jif name change to Cif - as Cif is pronouced Jif in Turkey...!!!, so I guess our mediterranean cousins can pronouce a hard J
I believe Jif became Cif as Jif is actually a swear word in some countries. indows NT version x.x has now become windows 2000, xp and shortly 2003. If you click start, run and in the command box type 'winver' you will see a version number and that is actually the version of windows nt you are running !
I do have a book called 'changes of names' listing company name changes, by Extel, but would also like to see a list of all product name changes. 300 plus product/company name origins on my website www.groups.msn.com/davidskingsburycollection under abbreviations.
Ok I thought long n hard about this and, anyone remember Treats? they seemed to dissapear and then reincarnated as Peanut M&Ms :oP

What about when they change an actor in soaps, keeping the same character and think we won't notice, like that Sugden boy in Emmerdale Farm, ooh there's another one, it's just Emmerdale now.. Then there's Tenderfoot and Sugarfoot, Alternate title by the Monkees, that was called scouse biitch or something in usa. Get it on?, Bang a gong, Zcars/Softly Softly, Persia? Ceylon? Rhodesia, and where is Wales represented in the Union Jack? gone off on a tangent no haven't i? Coat..
http://tv.cream.org/index.htm you might like the "best before" section (click on the pic of a marathon).
put your coat back. england is the red cross. scotland the blue X. wales the red X (ancient welsh flag - pre dragon days) - put them together = union jack
...Northern Ireland doesn't figure in the flag as back then it was all just "Ireland", and belonged to the Irish not the brits.
