Extended warranties

Rather than pay an extortionate amount for one of these, does anyone know of companies that will take on warranties for consumer goods such as tvs fridge freezers, but particularly laptop pcs as this will be my next purchase, thankyou

I really think extended warranties are a con. They're expensive and unnecessary. The vast majority of goods these days are a lot more dependable then they used to be and if you're unlucky enough to get one that dies too soon a simple letter quoting somewhere in it the Sale of Goods Act should bring results. There's always the small claims court but as the chances of it getting this far are so remote I wouldn't worry about it.
