Is it as simple as asking them to go & giving a months notice? The person in question is out of their initial 6 month contract.

I think as a landlord you should give 2 months notice

Under certain circumstances (where the tenant has breached the tenancy agreement) it might only be necessary to give two weeks notice. Otherwise, two months notice is required.

'Asking them to go' is not sufficient. You must serve a 'Section 21 Notice'. For a link to this document, and further relevant information, see here:
