Hi all - im thinking of getting the 80Gb iPod. I looked on th Apple website and saw that it had a screenshot of Pirates of the Carribean on it. Does this mean that the iPod will play DVD's? How would i convert them? Theres nothing in iTunes to rip DVD's... By the way, i want to do this legally! Thanks. PM.

In the states right now, you can buy some films from Disney and some of its owned companies, through the iTunes Music Store. I'd strongly suggest you don't however (even if you did live in the USA, of course), since they're iPod-only (DRM).

But, they can play any video you like, provided you convert them to iPod format. If you have a mac, there's an app called Handbrake that does this well. There are other similar apps for windows too. You can rip a DVD onto your computer and watch it that way, but technically this is illegal.

BTW, just to warn, video iPods have been rumoured for a long time (I mean proper video iPod, with a larger screen), but it's getting more and more likely to come out in the next month or so, in time for christmas, and to be able to laugh at Microsoft's Zune.

Hi fo3nix - Thanks for your help - but in you last paragraph, what have they 'been rumoured' for a long time for? And i use XP, btw.
The true video iPod, with a much larger screen for watching videos... maybe even touchscreen. You have to take the rumours with a pinch of salt though, but it would make sense.

iPod accepts only MP4 format video, but DVD is MPEG-2 format, so you have to rip your DVD to MP4 format for putting on iPod. I always use 'DVD to iPod Ripper' to do that, very easy to use and works well for me, this software can transfer converted DVD to iPod directly without iTunes, you needn't add it to iTunes then sync to iPod again, it also has 24*7 hours online technical support, really help. You may download it for a trial.
