What are the criteria for having one's speeling corrected? Masterbait is not allowed, but a bad spell of diarrhoea slips through the net.

Spelling is most often corrected where the meaning or clarity of a question might be affected. You will also see the 'Edited by Answerbank' tag where questions (or answers) written with the Caps Lock on have been altered to lower case, or when questions have been moved to a more appropriate category.

There is no diktat that says everything must be spelled correctly!

As you may be aware there is a 'profanity filter' which automatically detects and prohibits a list of proscribed words. This is a firmly family friendly environment! It isn't perfect, but we seem somehow to muddle through regardless.

The recent furore over spelling (or rather, speeling) may have detracted from the fact that this remains, hopefully, a friendly forum for the free exchange of knowledge and opinions.

[You will also notice occasional interjections, like this, if a direct response is felt appropriate. Oh, and when rogue underlinings or bold tags go wrong, they get tidied up too! - AB Editor]
What's this, Ed? Working on a Saturday? Don't you trust us lot on our own at the weekends?? ;-) BadlyHungBoy - if you get a bad spell of diarrhoea, you'd best go to the doc's, especially if it's slipping through the net!!
