Just HOW annoying?
I know that advertising materials that are loosely placed into mags etc can't really be termed unsolicited if I buy the publications knowing there are likely to be some. However, I certainly find them irritating. Am I alone?!
I don't worry about things slipped loosely into mags - just shake them out before I buy. However, I do get fed up when they staple the things in eg Radio Times, as it then interferes with how the pages turn, especially as they had a habit of inserting holiday brochures right in the middle of Sunday.
I agree better something that you can discard in a few seconds rather than having the ads actually printed on every other page in the magazine. You would hope that it also helps subsidise the cost of the mag (although I have my doubts). American magazines are a real pain to read - each article is spread throughout the entire mag presumably in an attempt at forcing you to read the ads.
Whenever I buy a magazine and the inserts get a bit OTT, I just think back to that hilarious scene from (I think it was 'Naked Gun 33 1/3) where a bloke in the background is browsing through a magazine and by the end of the scene he is knee-deep in ad inserts. Makes me smile.
Truly, these inserts are one of the great banes of modern living. If I had a pound for every occasion I have liberally sprinkled newsagents floors with pamphlets for loans and credit cards, it would be at least 472. Another thing that has really been winding me up....Hot air hand dyers! Certainly NOT for 'My Convenience'. Just rubbish. Clearly for the 'convenience' of whoever owns the loos not having to change towels (wipes hands on trousers and exits stage left).
