My workplace is getting very heavy handed, while it appears that woman are allowed to wear beach wear, the fellas have to wear a shirt and tie.
They are clamping down on all dress code violations which forbids woman from 'showing midrift' and asks woman to smarten themselves up.
My question is, can an employer threaten disciplinary action to male employees that do not wish to wear a tie, even though they are still in suit trousers and a formal collared shirt?
When the air conditioning breaks it reaches 27 degrees in the office which is made much worse by wearing a tie.
Apparently they are going to 'start clamping down' which in usual speak means 'start dishing out disciplinaries like toffees' to any male offenders.

Well, as a female I'm all for employers banning women showing bare midrifts. I think they're pretty unsightly, especially when an ugly thong creeping over the hipline is thrown in for good measure !
On a practical front, I don't think you're likely to do your career much good if you start trying to be a trouble-maker and accuse your employers of being discriminatory. Surely they are only trying to get all employees to turn up to work in a decent standard of attire? If you're feeling hot and a suit and ties are deemed manatory for male employees, you can remove your jacket, wear a short sleeved shirt, and loosen your top collar button, and also your tie.
yeah, quit whining.

I agree with working in a smart office workplace and agree that if woman should wear smart trousers (or skirts if they prefer!), shirt or blouse. I just dont see why men have to go that one step further and have to wear a tie.
Would the company have a leg to stand on if they started disiplining employees for not wearing a tie? The comical thing is that I could wear a scooby-doo cartoon tie or one of those 1980's piano type ties!!
