i have just found my doufold parker pen after a bit of a clear out, it must be at least 40 years old, it was given to me.Id quite like to start using it but cant seem to unscrew ! anybody familiar with these pens what am i doin wrong?

Is it (the cap?) just gummed up with dried ink? Maybe a little soak in water would loosen it.

yes thanks big gill, have got it unscrewed now ,just got to fathom how to put the ink in now! there seems to be a little gold thingy on the end of a long silver bit but god knows how your supposed to do it.

You need to be careful, as the rubber may have perished after such a long time.
I've just had my mum's old Vacumatic repaired (replacing the reservoir), and it cost me a lot to get it done.
I have used this guy for purchases, he knows his stuff.
There is a section if you scroll down the LHS for repairs.
