The adaptor for my freeview box is broken but the box itself is fine, where can i just get a new adaptor from? i tried a universal one with the same outut etc but it didn't work.

Did you mean the power adaptor? I had the same problem, but couldn't find one with the exact voltage/milliamp output.
Googling came up with a couple, but they were more expensive than a new freeview box. (I found one from Currys that didn't require a transformer - it plugged straight into the mains)
You should be able to get one from the likes of Maplin (store or mail order). Just make sure the voltage of the one you get matches exactly and the current rating is at least the same as the broken one - doesn't matter if it is more. Also ensure the polarity of the plug matches - there's usually a tiny diagram near the socket on the box indicating whether the centre is positive or negative.
